System Restore and viruses (Windows XP)
Sometimes a virus can get stuck in the System Restore files and can
not be removed with your antivirus program. This would include
Norton antivirus. The only way I know of to remove the virus is to
delete the System Restore files and start over with new files.
Here is how to delete the System Restore files in Windows XP. If
using the default Start Menu, click Start | Control Panel |
Performance and Maintenance | System. Select the System Restore tab
and check "Turn off System Restore".
If using the Classic Start Menu, click Start | Settings | Control
Panel and double-click the System icon. Select the System Restore
tab and check "Turn off System Restore". Restart your computer. You
must understand that if you delete the System Restore files, you
will not be able to use System Restore again until new files have
been built up. After restarting your computer, go back in and remove
the check mark from "Turn off System Restore".
QUESTION: How do I change my mouse from double click to single click
?
Good question, this is one of those things that drives me crazy when
I am working on someone else's computer. I have my computers set up
for single click and trying to remember to double click can
frustrate you. Here is how to change to a single click, Open any
folder on your computer and click on Tools at the top of the page.
Select Folder Options from the drop down menu. Under "Click items as
Follows", put a check mark next to "Single click to open an item
(Point to select), click Apply and OK. Another way to get to Folder
Options is to go to the Control Panel.

Adjusting the screen brightness on your laptop
Depending on your laptop, you can hold down the FN key and use the
up, down arrows to adjust. Some computers might use the FN key plus
the + or - keys. If you have a laptop and know how to adjust the
screen brightness, let us know what brand laptop you have and what
method you use. We will publish it in the newsletter and on the web
site to help others. Dimming the screen brightness can save on
battery consumption. Email us with the info at info@rverscomputerhelp.com.
Shopping for a laptop??
I think one of the most important things to look for in a laptop, is
how long will the battery last. You can have all the bells and
whistles, but if they drain your battery quickly, it can be
frustrating. So look for laptops that have duel core processors with
Centrino technology. Most any sales person can help with this and
explain the advantages. We have both a Sony laptop without the
Centrino and a Toshiba laptop with the Centrino. The battery in the
laptop with the Centrino lasts twice as long as the one without.
